Senior year has a funny way of making everyone feel like they need to fit inside the same box. Cap and gown. Football field. Brick wall. Smile at the camera. Repeat.
I’ve never believed that’s what senior pictures should be.
Starting the Day at the Garage Gym
When Sully and Miles reached out about their senior session, the goal wasn’t to photograph two brothers standing beside each other all afternoon. Being twins has already meant spending their lives being compared. Instead, we wanted to create a gallery that documented who they are right now, both together and individually, before life inevitably takes them in different directions.
That meant building a session around their interests rather than choosing locations simply because they were pretty.
We started in a garage gym, where they spend countless hours together. The weights, benches, chalk, and music weren’t props brought in for the session. They were part of their everyday life. Photographing them there immediately relaxed the entire experience because they weren’t trying to become someone else for the camera. They were simply existing in a place that already felt familiar.

From there we headed into downtown Hot Springs, where the afternoon became shopping at Static vintage store and and old Chevy van all became part of the story. Instead of walking from one predetermined backdrop to another, we wandered until something caught our attention. Sometimes it was incredible light hitting a staircase. Sometimes it was an interesting texture. Other times it was simply the way the two brothers naturally interacted while moving through the city.
One of my favorite stops was inside a vintage shop, STATIC, filled with cassette tapes, old televisions, retro video games, and shelves that felt frozen somewhere between the 1980s and early 2000s. Watching them browse through old music, forgotten technology, and pick up a giant boombox felt less like directing a photo shoot and more like documenting two friends on a Saturday afternoon. Those are the moments I always hope for because they tell a much richer story than a perfectly posed portrait ever could.
Why Personalized Senior Sessions Matter
As the evening went on, each location revealed something different about them. The fire escape brought out a moodier, editorial feel. The gym showcased their discipline and shared interests. The downtown streets gave the gallery movement and energy. The vintage store introduced nostalgia. Even the old van became more than a backdrop. It became another piece of a story that feels rooted in this exact season of their lives.
What I loved most, though, was that this gallery never became about photographing twins. It became about photographing two completely different young men. Their personalities balanced each other without ever competing, and I think that’s what makes these photographs feel authentic.
As a Little Rock Senior photographer, my favorite sessions are always the ones that feel personal. I don’t start by asking what color you want to wear or whether you’d rather shoot at sunset or sunrise. I start by asking what makes this season of your life different from every other season you’ve lived. What do you love? Where do you spend your time? What will you miss when you leave for college or begin your career?
Because those answers are what create photographs that still matter ten or twenty years from now.
